Log March 9

Forecast: I will cross the equator early this afternoon and as I am entering the ITC zone I expect increase in clouds and humidity, maybe some squalling but the zone is weak right now according to Herb Hilgenburg on the Net out of Canada.

I have not been heard by Herb so unable to check in but I listen and there are several boats in this vecinity heading to Africa or the east coast of South America.

Winds will lighten but I should maintain headway.  Somewhere near 2*N the winds will shift to a more NE direction and I will change course to head for RI. I will be making adjustments in my course to improve my angle of approach to RI nearer to Bermuda so there will be an increase in miles to sail by a hundred miles as I vere from the shortest distance to RI on the great circle to a more rhumline route, staight on a flat which does not take advantage of the curvature of the earth. The shortest distance is the route along the belly of the globe, taking a curved appearance on a flat chart. A little geometry.

Conditions: temp 86*f, humid and breezes are warmer;  Bar 1004: All is good on board. Conditions should be pleasant for the next 25 degrees and even into the Horse Latitudes, an area in the middle of the circle of tradewinds joined to the gulf stream coming up from the coast of Florida heading NE past Cape Hatteras. There will be an increased possibility of storms and squally conditions the farther north I go.

I recently recieved an email from Ken Barnes family spurring me on, letting me know that they are following my progress. Ken Barnes has an incredible following of wonderful people, many who have now also joined me on board Inspired Insanity.  My very best to Ken as he moves forward in the ventures before him. My deepest thanks to them as they have extended to me such amazing encouragement. I have great hopes of making it out their way in the next year and hope we can meet in person!

Will Barbeau has been wildly visionary and has created a near festival affair to meet me on my arrival.  Bristol has been an amazing home port for me and I am thrilled to draw the focus to the Marine Industry and lovely community there. I chose Bristol very carefully as a port of departure and return as they have treated me like family since my first arrival there in 2002, having completed my first solo crossing and heading for Ireland next.

Big hugs to all stretching their time schedules and energy to greet an old salt like myself.  It truly is a world community accomplishment, there is no question.  We will have succeeded together not only in circling the world but changing the world in a wonderful positive way as the love and camaraderie resounds in the energy waves around the Earth. It is incredible to consider but there is momentum building from all corners of the earth to encourage me on my way.  I am just overwelmed....Biggest hugs and loves xoxoxo d
